Globe to carry IPhone here in the Philippines

Posted by siriusblack29 on May 13, 2008

Globe Telecom will be among the first telecom operators in Asia to officially carry Apple’s popular iPhone handset.

Globe Telecoms together with other asian telecom companies like Singtel, Bharti Airtel, and Optus announced today that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Australia later this year.

The iPhone was launched in the United States January 2007 exclusively to AT&T. Apple said it would launch the iPhone in Asia this year but up until today it has not mentioned specific details.

According to Inquirer, and a source from Globe said the iPhone may be launched locally starting September this year. However, bringing the iPhone to Asia may require a different service provider infrastructure being used by that in the US.
The announcement comes as Apple looks to expand sales of the iPhone–a combination phone, music player and Web browser–that was launched in the US in 2007.

More information will be released at a later date.
